Why are we planning to bring solar panels to Italy?
Italy is one of the best locations around the world, and especially in Europe, for harvesting energy from the sun using solar panels. Solar energy is one of the main sources for green energy within the country accounting for one fifth of the green energy produced. From the early 2000s until today, the country has made many efforts to convert the public to solar through financial bonuses in the hopes of encouraging the installation and use of solar energy. The “golden decade,” as it is referred to by Enel Green Power, was between 2005 and 2015 where Italy succeeded in an average annual growth of 63.7%. All in all, the state subsidies were a big success in incentivizing the switch to renewable energy. However, when the subsidies were no longer offered, there was a big reduction in the progress that Italy had been experiencing with photovoltaics.
There is a wide spread of solar panel plants throughout Italy, with Lombardy having the highest number of plants followed by Veneto and Emilia Romagna. Puglia benefits from higher power from solar plants due to its bigger than average panel sizes, followed by Lombardy and Emilia Romagna.
Although there is already an established market for solar panels already in Italy, there is still a lot of room for growth and to increase the usage and availability of solar panels at a regional level. An interesting finding in this article, is that the north stores 44.4% of the total installed power, the south stores 37.4%, and the central regions 18.2%. GreenView Energy sees Italy as being a very promising country to start our company in as the opportunity to expand to clean energy is abundant while also having existing infrastructure. GreenView will allow more Italian households and companies the possibility to access green energy while also helping others around the world invest in renewables.
