An Italian startup created a customizable, fully recyclable sticker to cover solar panels on rooftops. The sticker can aesthetically improve the appearance of the solar system or even turn it into an advertising billboard.
While the stickers can replicate high-definition images, they also let through the essential sun-rays. The company ensures that solar systems retain 80-90% of their efficiency. The loss in efficiency is said to be compensated by advertisement campaigns. Due to the environmentally friendly aspect, advertisements can even be sold at a higher price than usual.
The sticker remain a high level of transparency, which may be differed according to customer preferences. Although less transparent options might be more aesthetically, the impact on the solar systems efficiency is affected accordingly.
The adhesive film for the aesthetic covers is a thermoplastic that was developed for outdoor applications. The company said that in the R&D process it focused on sustainability. It sought a solution that was fully recyclable, in line with circular economic principles.
Although still being under development, a first pilot project has been successfully completed in the Veneto region. A solar rooftop with a 'tile' texture has been installed.
