Driven by higher energy demand in 2018, global energy-related CO2 emissions rose 1.7% to a historic high of 33.1 Gt CO2 (source: IEA).
According to Solar Bay each kWh of electricity produced with coal generates 1000-700g of CO2 equivalent, while each kWh of electricity produced with gas generates 400g of CO2 equivalent.

Each countries power grid uses a mix of different energy sources. In Europe energy from the power grid can produce between 120g to 790g of CO2 equivalent. To find out how much your country produces click: HERE.
However, also a solar panel produces some CO2 in it's production proces, but a solar panel’s carbon footprint is roughly 20/25 times less than the carbon output of coal-powered electricity (roughly 40g of CO2 per kWh produced). This is why we have partnered with Reforestsaction.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, in one year a mature tree will absorb more than 22kg of CO2. This is why for every solar panel sold we will also plant one tree.
On top of emitting CO2, coal-fired power plants in the United States also create 120 million tons of toxic waste each year.
